You've got questions?  I've got answers!

There are some questions everyone needs the answers to, so let me see if I can save a bit of time.

How can I get in touch with you?

You can email me at mistywrites@gmail.com  I'll get back to you as soon as I can, usually a day or two.

Oh no, I'm too shy for that.

If you want to keep up with news and tidbits about what's happening around here, you can read my Livejournal, A Hazardous Occupation.  You can also join me and my friends Faith Hunter, David B Coe and C E Murphy at our group blog, Magical Words.

Where can I find your book?

Ask at your local bookstore.  You can order Mad Kestrel from Amazon.

So what is 'Misty' short for?

Nothing!  Misty is my real name.  My parents named me for the song Misty by Johnny Mathis, because they loved to dance to it when they were dating.  Isn't that romantic?

What's Mad Kestrel about, anyway?

Kestrel, quartermaster of a pirate ship, has hidden her secret all her life - she has the magical ability to control the air around her.  If the Danisoban Magi find her, she'll never again see the light of day.  But when her captain is captured and taken off to be hanged, she knows the only thing that can save him is her magic.  Here's Chapter One, for a taste of the adventure!

Why pirates?

Why not?  Despite their real-life brutality, pirates have always represented freedom to me.  Living on the open ocean, answering to no king or government, being able to go barefoot all day long...it sounds lovely.

How do I pronounce "Danisoban"?

Da - nee - SEW - ban.  I feel terrible that people are getting themselves confused.  If you want to know where I got the idea for the name, just ask me sometime at a signing or con.  Yes, there's a story and it's pretty goofy.  Nope, not telling you here.

But do you ever write about anything else?

Of course!  I've got lots of ideas bubbling away, so if pirates aren't your thing, stick around.  Of course, my first writing love was short stories, so I still write them whenever I have the time.  In fact, if you'd like to read one, here you go: The King's Left Arm

I'm a writer, too!  Will you read my work and give me some suggestions?

I am so sorry, but the answer's a definite no.  If you send me attachments, I'll delete them unopened.  If you send me pages, I'll send them right back, still sealed.  For one thing, there are liability issues for me.  I can't read something by an unpublished author, just in case that author decides later to accuse me of stealing the work.  Not to mention I'm very busy working on my own writing.  I don't think my publisher would be happy if I missed a deadline because I was reading everyone else's pages!

Are you going to come to my part of the world anytime soon?

I'm sure I'd love to!  Keep an eye on the "Find Me!" page, for updates on my travel plans.  You can also talk to your local booksellers or libraries and express an interest in having me come.

May I write a fanfic based on your world and characters?

*sticks fingers in her ears and hums loudly*  I don't want to know about it if you do.  Don't send me attachments or links to sites where you might have posted it.   Remember those liability issues I mentioned?

Where do you find your ideas?

The Gregorovich-Feister Idea Farm and Fresh Market.  It's hard to find, and sometimes the ideas I'm in the mood for just aren't in season, but there are always neat things to write about growing in the fields and orchards.  Bring your own bags, though.

Would you like a kitten?

No!  Not that I have anything against cats, but my husband and son are dreadfully allergic.  Besides, my darling Scarlet wouldn't appreciate my attention being diverted.
